For the ninth straight year, Akin labor & employment partner Donna Mezias has been selected among Daily Journal’s Top Labor & Employment Lawyers for 2023.
In her published profile, Daily Journal notes that Donna’s practice mirrors what California employers are facing: “discrimination cases and wage-and-hour matters.” Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, she says, her practice remains “robust and busy as issues change.”
The publication further details Donna’s work for client Home Depot, for whom she has served as lead or co-lead wage-and-hour counsel for the last 12 years, on two cases:
Camp et al. v Home Depot U.S.A. Inc. is a matter before the California Supreme court and is “the justices’ first-ever look at the legality under California law of the long-standing practice of time rounding in calculating workers’ pay.” According to Daily Journal, a summary judgment was granted to Home Depot, but was reversed by a Sixth District Court of Appeal panel. Donna and Akin Supreme Court & appellate partner Aileen McGrath “successfully petitioned for high court review and filed their opening brief on June 1.” Donna notes that she expects the matter to “attract numerous friend of the court briefs, with oral argument to follow in 2024.”
