On the 3rd, Kim Han-kyu, senior deputy floor leader for policy of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "We will swiftly make a law in the National Assembly to punish the dissemination of false information about comfort women victims."
On this day, Senior Deputy Floor Leader Kim shared an article on Facebook about the head of a conservative-leaning group who appeared before police on charges including defamation of the deceased after holding a rally in front of the Statue of Peace, and stated accordingly.
Senior Deputy Floor Leader Kim said, "There are still people who spread false information by saying 'comfort women were sex workers,' insulting the comfort women victims," adding, "It is the so-called 'brainless defamation of the deceased' conduct that President Lee Jae-myung also strongly criticized."
Kim added, "The reason such conduct continues is that it is difficult to punish as defamation if the victim is not identified," and said, "The dissemination of false information that tramples on the honor of comfort women victims must not be left unattended in the name of freedom of expression.
