Dropped attorney must disclose false claims in Wall Street sex scandal - NewsNation

(NewsNation) — A Manhattan judge has approved a request from a lawyer to drop his client in the high-profile Wall Street sex scandal case.

However, the judge ruled the attorney must disclose to JPMorgan whether any false statements were made in the original lawsuit filed by ex-JPMorgan banker Chirayu Rana.

Legal analyst Rich Schoenstein said on “Jesse Weber Live” the disclosure appears focused on specific statements made under oath — including claims about the plaintiff’s mother’s occupation and internal JPMorgan settlement discussions.

“It’s correcting false evidence that’s been submitted in the case,” Schoenstein said.

What this means for the Wall Street sex scandal case

Any false statements could damage Rana’s credibility. Schoenstein said Rana’s defense team will likely push back before anything is disclosed.

“I would assume they’ll have some dialogue with the former attorney to try to figure out what he might be saying prior to him saying it,” he said. “He might say nothing. I just don’t know what to make of it until we see it.”

Battle over where the Wall Street sex scandal case is heard

Rana’s new attorneys are pushing to move the case from state court to federal court. Schoenstein says that’s likely about getting a fresh start with a new judge.

“They clearly don’t like this state court judge, and I think they want to reset with a new judge. Moving to federal court is a vehicle that allows that,” he said.
