Low Temp Industries Inc. saw claims in a dispute with Duke Manufacturing Co. over the last of a trio of food-storage and serving patents knocked down by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, also lending Duke an edge in their district court infringement case.
The PTAB on Friday ruled all of the challenged claims in US Patent No. 9,795,253—an innovation which allows food serving trays on buffet-style islands to be alternatively heated, cooled or frozen—are obvious in light of previous inventions, and therefore invalid. The board struck claims from two related Low Temp patents earlier in July.
