On the 10th, the president shared a social media post and video claiming, “Israeli soldiers tortured a Palestinian child and dropped him from a rooftop,” adding, “It is no different from the Jewish Holocaust.” However, the video was from two years ago, and the torture allegations were false. Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded, stating, “President Lee made remarks trivializing the Jewish Holocaust on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day. We strongly condemn this.” It also advised, “It would be preferable to verify facts before posting.”

A national leader publicly condemning an allied nation based on falsehoods, and a foreign ministry rebutting with hostile terms like “condemn,” both defy diplomatic norms. Typically, such issues are resolved quietly through diplomatic channels to serve mutual interests. Yet, President Lee countered Israel’s rebuttal, stating, “It is disappointing that a nation engaging in inhumane and internationally unlawful actions fails to reflect on global criticism.” He further criticized opposition parties and media for “brazenly committing treacherous acts” despite their duty to pursue public interest.
