EFCC Arrests TikToker Over Alleged False Claims Of Officers’ Kidnap, Romance Scam In Kwara - Sahara Reporters
The anti-graft agency said that the suspect, in December 2025, circulated claims alleging that its operatives attached to the Ilorin Zonal Directorate were kidnapped by bandits while on official assignment in Kwara State.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a TikTok user, Udoma David Ekeh, for allegedly spreading false information about the Commission and its personnel.
The anti-graft agency said that the suspect, in December 2025, circulated claims alleging that its operatives attached to the Ilorin Zonal Directorate were kidnapped by bandits while on official assignment in Kwara State.
“He also insinuated that the bandits demanded a huge ransom from the EFCC before releasing the purported officers,” EFCC stated.
“All his claims are fabricated, together with the use of his TikTok account to incite and misinform the public about the Commission’s relentless efforts in tackling the menace of internet fraud.”
The EFCC stated that further investigations uncovered the suspect’s alleged involvement in cybercrime.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect is involved in a romance scam by using his Facebook account to impersonate a foreigner with the name Garg Carta,” EFCC stated.
The agency added that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigations.
