Egypt bans Australian alternative health figure Barbara O’Neill over false claims - Egypt Independent

Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) has decided to ban Australian alternative healthcare promoter Barbara O’Neill from appearing across media outlets due to her false health claims, Veto reported.

The Council ruled to prohibit broadcasting, rebroadcasting, or distributing any video content featuring her, and banned the promotion of any health, training, or event services she offers within Egypt.

The decision follows official communications received by the SCMR from the Ministry of Health and Population and the Egyptian Medical Syndicate.

These communications revealed that O’Neill lacks legal status and holds no license to practice medicine, as she is not registered with the Ministry’s medical registry or the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, nor does she possess any recognized qualification in medicine or therapeutic nutrition.

Consequently, providing any diagnostic or therapeutic content subjects her to the prohibitions established under Law #415 of 1954 regarding the practice of human medicine.

Furthermore, a permanent regulatory ban was issued against her abroad by the New South Wales Health Care Complaints Commission in Australia on September 24, 2019, prohibiting her from providing any health or awareness services or delivering lectures, whether paid or voluntary.

The authorities also highlighted her promotion of dangerous claims which would negatively impact public health.
