Egypt's Travis Scott promoter slams 'false' reports about pyramids ... - Los Angeles Times

Live Nation Middle East asserted Tuesday that “no changes” had been made to Travis Scott’s upcoming concert at the Egyptian pyramids despite reports that officials in in the country had canceled the hip-hop star’s permit to perform there.

“PSA There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt; any reports to the contrary are false. We can’t wait to celebrate ‘Utopia’ with you in Egypt,” the concert promoter and ticketing service Ticketsmarche said in a Tuesday tweet.

The announcement was made after the Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions revoked the permit it had issued, saying the “Sicko Mode” rapper’s July 28 show would “contradict the identity of the Egyptian people,” a statement that came on the heels of unsubstantiated claims that Scott promoted “Masonic thoughts” and “carries out strange rituals” during his live events.

The musicians’ syndicate, a local group responsible for approving permits, on Tuesday revoked the permit that would have allowed Scott to perform and livestream the concert in Cairo’s Sound and Light area — an event meant to debut his forthcoming “Utopia” album. The concert had initially been supported by the Egyptian Tourism Authority and quickly sold out after tickets went on sale...
