False claims that Elon Musk abused a cat when he was at college have gone viral on Twitter this week.
People often troll the new Twitter CEO online, and this wild and disturbing attempt has fooled thousands on the social media platform.
However, thankfully, the article is not real. Let’s debunk the claims once and for all…
False Elon Musk ‘cat abuse’ claims go viral
The claims emerged on Monday (November 7) when a Twitter user shared screenshots of a (tweet includes bad language) fake news article titled: “Elon Musk’s father paid college $125,000 to ignore animal abuse claims.”
In just over 24 hours, the tweet has had over 77,000 likes and 15,000 tweets and has gone viral on the social media platform.
The news article, which was made to look like it was from The Independent, says the Twitter CEO performed indecent acts on a cat whilst he was at college.
It goes on to falsely claim the businessman paid for an operation the cat required before the animal died – but it’s all fake news.
The news article is fake
If it wasn’t obvious already by the wild wording of the article, a quick Google search reveals the whole thing isn’t real.
No article from The Independent exists with that headline, and the entire thing was clearly made up to troll Elon and the rest of Twitter.
If you search the article writer Graeme Massie, it appears that the fake Twitter photo is a photoshopped version of a real article about Elon Musk.
