Colorado lawmakers were busy in 2026, and employers must take note of a slew of new workplace laws enacted this year. Governor Jared Polis, in the final year of his final term, took a notably harder line against several high-profile labor bills this year, vetoing three of the session’s most closely watched employee-side measures. But he also signed others that add new compliance obligations related to artificial intelligence, EEO-1 data reporting, and more. New Workplace Laws Enacted in 2026

AI Regulation Gets a Reset: Colorado AI Act Repealed and Replaced (SB 189)

The single biggest employment-adjacent development of the session was the legislature’s decision to scrap and rewrite Colorado’s first-in-the-nation AI anti-discrimination law, which had been repeatedly delayed and challenged in court since it was enacted in 2024.

The new law replaces mandatory bias audit and risk impact assessment requirements with a streamlined transparency-and-notice framework that will require AI developers and businesses that deploy covered automated decision-making technology to meet several key obligations.
