The services of an Employer of Record, or simply EOR, have become increasingly popular. Such global employment services providers coming from the US market often refer to themselves as a Professional Employer Organization (PEO). Regardless of the name, these businesses offer their clients essentially the same services. Companies currently have the possibility choose from a large group of such service providers, which can assist in administering the personnel matters of their employees, including those recruited internationally.

In their marketing materials, EORs (and PEOs) emphasize that they can help entrepreneurs develop their business beyond the borders of their home country—without the need to set up new organizational units (branches or subsidiaries).
