SPRING 2022

Mandatory vaccination

Legislation implementing the extension of mandatory covid-19 vaccinations in England to health and social care workers, including volunteers, who have face to face contact with service users is expected to come into force in the Spring. There will be a 12 week grace period to allow those who have not yet been vaccinated to get both doses, with enforcement expected to begin on 1 April.

Gender pay gap reporting

30 March will see the gender pay gap reporting deadline for public sector employers (using 31 March 2021 as a snapshot date).

4 April sees the gender pay gap reporting deadline for private companies and voluntary organisations with 250 or more staff. The snapshot date of 5 April 2021 means that for a second year in a row furlough will significantly impact on the final figures. Although furloughed employees are excluded as 'full-pay relevant employees (unless their pay was topped up to their usual full pay), they are still included as 'relevant employees' and must be included in the employer's head count and gender pay calculations that include bonus pay.

National living and national minimum wage

1 April will see the changes to national living and national minimum wage taking effect. As of this date the new rates will be:-

  • NLW will increase from 8.91 to 9.50 per hour (for those aged 23 and over)
