Eric Suher, Iron Horse group to pay $14,000 to wronged workers, $25,000 state fine - MassLive.com

NORTHAMPTON — Iron Horse Entertainment Group owner Eric Suher will pay $13,837 to 74 workers and a $25,000 penalty to settle allegations that he violated state wage and hour laws and that he didn’t maintain a valid policy for earned sick time.

In June 2021, the Attorney General’s office announced a fine against Suher and Iron Horse of $100,000 in restitution and penalties. Included in that was a lower amount — $1,992 — in restitution to employees.

But at the time, the Attorney General’s Office said the restitution would go to 30 employees.

Suher appealed that fine and the Attorney General’s office reached a settlement with him Aug. 9, according to court papers.

In the court document, Suher does not admit liability. But he and the company do promise to comply with state labor law in the future.

“My office will continue to hold accountable companies that take advantage of people trying to make a living. We are pleased to have secured lost wages for employees whose rights were violated by Iron Horse Ventures and will continue to advocate on behalf of all workers in Massachusetts.” said Attorney General Maura Healey in a prepared statement.

The issue came to light in 2019 following a news report on New England Public Media.

Suher was accused of cheating them out of overtime by splitting work weeks among his different businesses so no one time slip added up to more than 40 hours; not providing breaks, but then deducting the half-hour’s pay; not providing sick time; not posting...
