Esteban warns that, if the Public Employment reform "fails", the EH Bildu model will not be "copied" - Demócrata

The president of the PNV, Aitor Esteban, has defended that the reform of the Basque Public Employment Law, promoted by his party to reinforce the legal guarantees of linguistic requirements in Public Employment Offers (OPE), is "a good solution" and has stressed that, if this scheme "failed", the EH Bildu approach will not be "copied", but rather "other models, the evolution of legislation and also practice itself" will have to be "taken into account".

In an interview on Onda Vasca, reported by Europa Press, he maintained that the modification of the Basque Public Employment Law promoted by the PNV, which passed this Thursday in the Basque Parliament with the abstention of EH Bildu, was "the most appropriate and the most reasonable".

After recalling that the judicial resolutions contrary to the requirement of Basque in OPEs of various Basque institutions "were altering the normality" with which the model had been applied, he explained that his party has proposed "an adaptation of the law in a proportional manner, taking into account both what the Statute says and the sociolinguistic reality" of Euskadi, which "is very diverse".

As he stated, "it is a solution" that now "will have to be seen how it is implemented" and, if applicable, "what the Constitutional Court may resolve", of which he said he had "hope that it will be favorable to Basque positions".
