KUALA LUMPUR: A former civil servant has been remanded for four days to assist in investigations into allegedly submitting documents containing false particulars to obtain about RM300,000 under a financial assistance programme.
The remand order, effective until July 17, was issued by Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (July 14) following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Sources said the suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested at about 6pm on Monday (July 13) when he turned up to give his statement at the Kuala Lumpur MACC office.
Initial investigations revealed that the alleged offences were committed between 2020 and 2025 while the suspect was still serving as a civil servant.
"The suspect was believed to have used the personal information of 11 individuals without their knowledge to apply for financial assistance.
"The monthly aid, ranging from RM500 to RM1,000, was allegedly channelled into the suspect's personal bank account," the source said.
Kuala Lumpur MACC director Mohammad Zakkuan Talib confirmed the arrest when contacted.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly submitting documents containing false particulars.
