A manager's alleged "triggered" comment now sits at the center of a federal retaliation case
A former consultant alleges Google fired him for reporting racial bias, then used a travel rule to justify the decision.
That claim sits at the center of a retaliation lawsuit filed July 30, 2026 in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. A former Google Cloud consultant alleges the company punished him for a protected complaint about race. The filing builds much of its case on statements it attributes to his manager.
According to the complaint, the friction began in May 2023. A customer asked that the consultant be removed from an engagement after a difficult kickoff call. He was the only person of color on the team, the filing says, and Google replaced him with two Caucasian colleagues. That August, he submitted written feedback suggesting "implicit bias" may have influenced the customer's request. The complaint casts that feedback as protected activity, meaning a good-faith complaint about suspected discrimination.
The complaint places his manager's alleged response at the core of the case. The filing says that in a January 2024 meeting, she told him his bias feedback had "triggered" her because she has "racists in her family," and that she "did not know how to work with" him going forward.
