Xiang Haitao, a Chinese national, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit economic espionage, U.S. Justice Department says.

• DOJ said Xiang conspired to steal a trade secret from Monsanto consisting of a proprietary predictive algorithm referred to as the Nutrient Optimizer
• He sought to take the information to China for the benefit of the Chinese government, DOJ said
• Sentencing is scheduled for April 7
