Ex-teacher sues East Pennsboro Area School District, claims she was falsely accused of vandalizing elementary - pennlive.com

A former East Pennsboro Area School District teacher has filed a federal lawsuit against the district and one of its principals, claiming she was falsely accused of vandalizing the elementary school where she worked.

Sarah Steinhauer, who was an art teacher at East Pennsboro Elementary School, also says in the U.S. Middle District Court complaint that she was subjected to a hostile work environment that finally prompted her to resign last year.

She contends as well that the treatment she received at the hands of district officials exacerbated her physical and mental health conditions and that those officials made no effort to accommodate her disabilities.

An attempt to obtain comment from the district leadership concerning Steinhauer’s suit was not immediately successful Tuesday.

Steinhauer was one of several former East Pennsboro teachers who spoke during a public gathering at Adams Ricci Park in May to address concerns about teacher turnover in the district. By the time of that meeting, more than 100 staffers had left the district in the past two years. District officials said the turnover rate was not abnormal.

During the meeting at the park, Steinhauer and other current and former staffers claimed morale in the district had plummeted and that the leadership was unresponsive.
