Kim Se-ui, 50, CEO of Hoverlab, has been transferred to prosecutors on charges of spreading false information, including claims that late actress Kim Sae-ron had dated actor Kim Soo-hyun, 38, while she was a minor.
Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced on the 4th that Kim was transferred to prosecutors under arrest.
Kim is accused of making claims on YouTube broadcasts and elsewhere after Kim Sae-ron’s death in February of last year, stating, “Kim Soo-hyun dated the underage Kim Sae-ron and pressured her to repay debts, leading to her death.” In May of the same year, Kim also held a press conference with Kim Sae-ron’s family, claiming to have “proof that Kim Sae-ron was already in a relationship with Kim Soo-hyun at age 15” and released an audio recording allegedly featuring Kim’s voice.
However, police determined that the audio file Kim released was created using AI (artificial intelligence) and that KakaoTalk conversations between Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron had been fabricated. Based on this, police applied charges including violation of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, defamation, threats, and attempted coercion, and requested a bench warrant on the 14th. Prosecutors also requested the warrant on the 19th of the same month, and the court issued it, stating, “There is a risk of evidence destruction and fleeing.”
