Experts warn of rising false claims as election day approaches - WWMT-TV

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — There's still another 50 or so days to go until election day, and there's all sorts of false and misleading claims being made.

It's a trend we can see online, in the campaign stops and even during the debates, according to experts.

"It seems as though some candidates for public office have decided that lying is not just a way to get ahead, but is actually the best way to get ahead," Western Michigan University Political Science Professor John Clark said.

Politicians making false claims is nothing new, and sometimes it's not always on purpose, according to Clark.

However, in recent years, there's been a major shift.

"Once they find out it's not true, one would think they would stop using it, and one might think that in an ideal world they might even try to correct the statement they made originally," Clark said. "We're not seeing that much now."

Clark points out we've seen this on both sides of the aisle

"You know what those illegal immigrants did, they compete with Americans for scarce homes," Vance said. "The Donald J. Trump plan is that American housing should go to American citizens, not people who ought to not be in this country to begin with."

Homeownership is unrealistic for Americans because of illegal immigration, according to Vance.
