Fabricated video of Indian army chief dancing at party misleads online - Yahoo

An AI-manipulated video has circulated online with a false claim that it was used in a CNN report on a senior Indian military official dancing with another officer's wife. A search on the US broadcaster's website shows it did not publish the clip, while a detection tool has flagged it as synthetic content.

"A viral video circulating on social media appears to show Indian Army Chief Dhiraj Seth flirting with an Army Major's wife, Supreet Sapra," reads a Facebook post shared on 29 September, 2026.

The attached 23-second clip appears to show footage of a man in a suit dancing with a woman dressed in a white saree published on US broadcaster CNN's website with a headline that repeats the false claim.

A still image on the bottom right shows another woman seen with a man in uniform and a turban, but the two women's faces do not match.

Indian and Pakistani social media users have traded false claims about each other since the neighbours fought a deadly four-day conflict in 2025 after gunmen killed over two dozen tourists, mostly Hindus, in Kashmir. New Delhi blamed Islamabad for the attack, an allegation Pakistan denies ( archived link).

AFP has debunked fabricated quotes attributed to Indian officials and clips of rallies falsely presented as clashes between police and protesters in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
