Facebook has suspended the right-wing social media account that in the last week posted false information about transgender health care for young people at Boston Children’s Hospital, inviting a firestorm of threats and harassment against the medical center and its clinicians.

The account targeted Children’s Hospital’s Gender Multispecialty Service Program, or GeMS, the first pediatric and adolescent transgender health program in the nation. The program cares for patients with gender dysphoria, a condition in which people identify with a different sex than the one they were assigned at birth.

In posts throughout the last week, Libs of TikTok, a popular right-wing social media account, repeatedly made false claims about the program, including that it performed gender-affirming surgeries on young children.

Children’s said the claims made the hospital “the target of a large volume of hostile internet activity, phone calls and harassing emails including threats of violence toward our clinicians and staff.” The hospital said it was working with law enforcement to respond to the threats and protect its staff.

In a tweet Wednesday night, the Libs of TikTok Twitter account said its Facebook page had been permanently suspended. The account posted an image of a notice from Facebook saying that the suspension was over violations of the social media network’s standards.

Libs of TikTok’s Facebook page has not posted since 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
