Facebook whistleblower submits dossier on company practices before Parliament's IT panel - India Today

Former Facebook data analyst and whistleblower Sophie Zhang has submitted dossier on the social media giant to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology. According to sources in the Committee, the submissions relate to alleged bias of the social media giant and lack of proper regulation in India's context.

The documents allegedly also talk in detail about the functioning of Facebook, globally and in India.

In a recent interview, Sohpie Zhang pointed out that the social media giant was selective in removing fake accounts during the 2020 Delhi elections. She had noted that Facebook removed three out of four fake accounts, barring the fourth one because it was personally being handled by a member of parliament belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Standing Committee under the Chairmanship of Shashi Tharoor is now scheduled to meet on November 29, with the discussion likely to revolve around social media.

Notably, Facebook India representatives have also been summoned by the Committee and will be making a deposition on November 29.

With respect to the documents submitted by Sophie Zhang, sources say that the Parliamentary panel has taken note of the submissions and the same have been circulated amongst all members.
