Fact Check: 2023 Video of Travel Influencer Drowning Goes Viral With False Claims - Newsmobile

Recently, travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar, 27, tragically died after falling into a gorge near Mumbai. The incident occurred while she was exploring a popular yet perilous trekking spot. Her untimely death has sent shockwaves through the influencer community and highlighted the potential dangers associated with adventure travel. The local authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the fall to ensure safety measures are reinforced in such areas.

Against this backdrop, a video showing a youth slipped and fell into a river while recording a video has gone viral on social media. The caption to the post reads: “Life is NOT CHEAP for your dear ones. Another accident while making reel. All madness on these young generations.”

NewsMobile fact-checked, and found it to be fake.

Running the viral video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team detected an extended and original video on a YouTube channel Akash Sagar, dated September 26, 2023, with a title: “Akash Sagar last video? – Akash Sagar vlogs”, confirm that the footage is old and not recent.

Analysing the video, we located the viral clip at the 0:26 timestamp. In the clip, Akash can be heard asking the cameraman, “Awaz aa rahi hai meri? (Is my voice audible?), before slipping into the foamy water. While the viral clip suggests he drowned, the full video reveals that Akash swam and was rescued in time.
