Fact check: Algerian X account spreads false claims of Israeli Jews seizing land in Morocco - HESPRESS English - Morocco News

A video shared widely on X by an Algerian account has fueled a wave of misinformation, falsely claiming that Israeli Jews are seizing land in Morocco.

The post, written in Arabic, described the situation as “dangerous,” alleging that Moroccan security forces and the Royal Gendarmerie were demolishing what they called “informal buildings” to return land to Moroccan Jews holding Israeli nationality.

The post also claimed that villagers resisted the operation, throwing stones at security forces and leaving dozens injured.

The claims quickly spread across social media, as other users hopped on the misinformation wagon and amplified the narrative. One post by a user identified as Jvnior on March 26 read:

“BREAKING: Israeli jews are now STEALING LAND in Morocco. Moroccan jews with Israeli citizenship requested the Royal Gendarmerie to implement a decision to demolish what they describe as ‘illegal buildings’ with the aim of returning land.

Strong resistance was seen from villagers and rural residents, to the point of stoning the authorities’ forces and recording dozens of injuries.”

Many other users copied and reposted the same claims alongside the video on X, amplifying the misinformation without verifying its accuracy.

The claims have nothing to do with the video, which dates back to late March when clashes erupted in Kelaat Sraghna in the village of Ouled Rami, as authorities moved to enforce a court ruling to open a road leading to a quarry site.
