Claims on social media that the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden hired two “crisis actors” to pose as members of the Marine Corps during a public address in Philadelphia are unfounded. The allegations originated in a website that has a record of publishing fabricated stories and describes its content as containing satire.
Reuters previously addressed false allegations that the two servicemen who flanked Biden were digitally superimposed on to a video of his speech in Philadelphia (here).
During the address on Sept. 1, Biden charged Republican allies of former U.S. President Donald Trump with undermining the country’s democracy and urged voters to reject extremism ahead of the November midterm elections (here).
On Sept. 3, website Real Raw News published an article entitled “Biden Hires Crisis Actors to Portray U.S. Marines.” The article attributes the alleged information to an unnamed source in the office of Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps General David Berger (here).
The story has since been posted in other blogs with attribution to Real Raw News (here) (here) (here) (here) (here).
A video showcasing the text of the Real Raw News article has garnered at least 1,100 shares since being posted on Sept. 3 (here).
“Why has these people not be arrested for Treason and Sedition against the United States of America (sic)!” one Facebook user commented. “I knew they had to be fake. It’s the Democrap way. Lies and deception,” wrote another.
