Fact Check-Claims Delta Force seized an IRS weapons shipment stem from debunked satire news site - Reuters.com

Social media users are falsely claiming that a special operations unit of the U.S. Army Delta Force seized weapons bound for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) building in Washington, DC. The claim originated from a website that has a history of publishing unfounded information under the description of it containing “humor, parody, and satire”.

The claim originates from a Real Raw News article published on Aug. 8, 2022 (archive.ph/sW0oe) with the headline: “Delta Force Seizes IRS Weapons Shipment”.

The article begins: “Delta Force Operators Monday morning intercepted an 18-wheeler packed with pistols and bound for the Internal Revenue Service Building in Washington, D.C., a source in General David H. Berger’s office told Real Raw News.”

In its “About Us” section (here), Real Raw News states that “information on this website is for informational and educational and entertainment purposes” and that the site “contains humor, parody, and satire.”

When asked about the claims, Marine Corps spokesperson Major Jim Stenger told Reuters via email: “This is fake.”

Real Raw News has a history of publishing misleading or false articles about well-known public figures, including stories about the U.S. military and false arrests (here) (here) (here).
