Fact Check: Clipped Video of UP CM Adityanath Viral with False Claims - Newsmobile

A short clip showing Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath paying homage to a statue of Mahatma Gandhi is doing the rounds on social media. Many online users share this video, claiming that Yogi barely stayed to pay homage to Bapu and left within seconds without even paying proper respect.

A Facebook user posted the viral video with a caption: 15 सेकेंड में सब कुछ हो गया बिना हाथ जोडे चल भी दिए बापपू (English translation: 15 seconds without everything Bapu went with folded hands.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Reverse Image Search on the video keyframes, we found a YouTube video, dated January 30, 2022, on the official YouTube channel of Indian news agency ANI. The video, having a title: CM Yogi Adityanath pays floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary in Lucknow, informs that it was shot on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi January 30, 2022.

The keyframes from 00:05 to 00:21 match exactly with the viral clip. After paying his tributes to Gandhi, Yogi can be seen sitting down for prayers towards the end of the video, as opposed to the viral claims.

Another 7-minute video tweeted by the CM’s office shows Yogi paying homage to the statue. The video further shows a choir of schoolchildren singing prayers and the CM sitting there at the event.
