Contrary to claims online, Michael Sussmann, a former attorney for Hillary Clinton’s U.S. presidential campaign, was not arrested by the U.S. military in June 2022. The claim originated on a website that has a history of publishing unfounded information under the description of containing “humor, parody, and satire”.
On June 6, Real Raw News published an article titled, “Military Arrests Michael Sussmann” ( here ), attributing information to an unnamed “source” of the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG).
The article was published days after a jury in Washington found Sussmann not guilty of lying to the FBI when he met with the bureau in September 2016 to share a tip about possible communications between Donald Trump's business and a Russian bank ( here ).
A screenshot of the mobile version of the Real Raw News article was posted to Twitter on June 6 and has since been retweeted more than 600 times at the time of writing ( here ).
While some users questioned the authenticity of the story, others were duped into thinking that the article was published by a genuine news organization.
“A "not guilty" verdict? Pah! Who cares? The military swept in and arrested Michael Sussman for treason,” one Twitter user wrote ( here )
“Right after his trial, I did say this was coming.....JUSTICE IS COMING, SOONER OR LATER< ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.....JUNE = MILITARY,” another one commented ( here )
