Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) claimed the Pentagon plans to force testosterone on service members without their consent. The policy she described does not exist.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced this week that service members age 30 and older will have their testosterone levels screened during the annual health assessment they already undergo. According to NBC News, troops younger than 30 can volunteer for the test, and any treatment that follows is entirely the individual’s decision. Nobody is prescribed anything. Nobody is required to take anything.
Jayapal, who has a documented habit of misstating facts to fit a preferred narrative, described a very different policy in remarks this week.

“It would be absurd and laughable if it wasn’t so serious on many counts. Number one, the medical issues that you have identified with forcing people to take testosterone. Testosterone. Number two, the hypocrisy in banning trans service members and then prescribing testosterone for members of the military, it’s not clear whether that’s male members or male and female members,” Jayapal said in an interview with Democracy Now!
She kept going, casting a blood draw as a government hormone mandate.
