Following the announcement of the results of the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, a claim is going viral on various social media platforms that the total number of voters in Bihar was 74.2 million, but 74.5 million votes were cast. This data is being shared to claim ‘fraud’ in the Bihar elections.
Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be false and election propaganda. The voter turnout in both phases of the Bihar elections did not exceed the number of registered voters in the state. According to data, 66.91% of the state’s total registered voters exercised their franchise.

Social media user ‘Nishant Verma’ shared the viral post and wrote, “Maha scam of Election Commission in Bihar? They claim there are 7.42 crore, yet 7.45 crore votes were cast, and still report turnout as 66.91%. Does that mean Bihar has 12 crore voters? #VoteChori #Bihar #biharelection2025.”
Many other users on different social media platforms have shared this video with the same claim.
Investigation
Voting in Bihar was held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with the results declared on November 14. According to the results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats, the Janata Dal United (JDU) 85, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 25, the LJP(R) 19, the Congress six, and the AIMIM five.
