Fighting to clear his late father’s name and change the law to help people who claim that they have been falsely accused of crimes has turned Daniel Janner KC into an “accidental media campaigner”.
When he died in 2015, aged 87, Lord Greville Janner QC, the former Labour MP, was facing 22 charges of child sexual abuse in relation to nine people. He denied the offences and, as a result of his dementia, was ruled unfit to plead formally before a trial could take place.
Two inquiries have found failings in the police investigations and missed opportunities to prosecute the peer, but his family has always maintained his innocence. “He died an innocent man, which of course, he was,” says his son, who believes that
