The claim: Group with ties to Mark Zuckerberg has taken control of the 2024 election
A May 21 tweet (direct link, archive link) includes a link to an article from conservative commentator Steve Bannon’s website titled, “Controversial Zuckerberg Group Purchases Storage Center For ‘Voting Machines And Ballots’ For Election Offices Ahead Of 2024.”
Part of the tweet reads, “BREAKING NEWS: THIRD PARTY MOTHER ZUCKERS TAKE CONTROL OF 2024 ELECTION.”
The tweet was retweeted more than 1,000 times in less than a week. Bannon shared a screenshot of the article on his Instagram, where it recieved over 3,000 likes in less than two weeks. The article was shared on Facebook over 100 times, according to social media insights tool CrowdTangle.

A nonprofit group awarded Macoupin County, Illinois, a grant, and some of it was used to purchase a building to serve as a voting center. But the nonprofit had no say in the purchase and it remains up to the county to run the election and determine how to use the grant money, according to both the county and the nonprofit. There is no evidence the nonprofit has taken control of the election process in the county.
