Many users on the internet are claiming that the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has said that there has been no major terror attack in India since 2013. The claims erupted after the NSA’s recent visit to the Sardar Patel Memorial to deliver a lecture on governance.
A user, @drshamamohd, on X questioned his remark with the attachment of the recent terror attacks carried out in Pulwama, Uri and Pahalgam.
Similar claims can be seen here and here.
Fact-Check
Upon reviewing the actual clip of the statement, the DFRAC team found this claim to be misleading. The NSA Ajit Doval’s official speech at the Sardar Patel Memorial made many headlines across the broadcasters. According to the reports of Wion, The Times of India, and other media houses, he did say that “facts are facts” and “the last major terror attack was in 2013”. Along with this statement, he added an important clarification: Jammu and Kashmir was an exception. In his original revelation, he said: “The last major terror attack in India was in 2013. Except Jammu and Kashmir, which has been a theatre of proxy war or a covert warfare for Pakistan.”
Conclusion
Therefore, the claim that NSA Ajit Doval said that there has been no major attack in India after 2013 is false and incomplete. His remark specifically excluded Jammu and Kashmir from the assessment that the rest of India suffered no major terror attack since 2013.
