I was struck by a classic example of “Don’t believe everything you read” on the front page of the Middletown newsletter, “Middletown Today,” (September 2026 Volume 6 Edition 12). What caught my eye was a statement regarding the Middletown Center project that reads: “Regardless of their vote, council members said they heard the feedback from residents throughout the process, both pro and con.”
It is insulting for the Middletown council to utter such sentiment. Public hearings have been held since 2022, and the council continued to unanimously vote to move forward with the developers in a direction the public has clearly protested.
The article goes on to state, “A large number of residents have spoken against Middletown Center, a theme that continued Tuesday night. Among the concerns cited included overdevelopment, lack of transparency, too many hotels, absence of affordable housing, more traffic, impacts on infrastructure and other arguments.”
This has been the message since 2022, and any councilor in office voting with the public’s voices instead of the developer’s goals would have altered course long ago. It appears to me that the author overlooked some things in writing this article.
