False claims of Biden on Michigan ballots debunked by state law - WEYI

FLINT, Mich. - A post circulating on social media claims nine states will have President Joe Biden’s name on the ballot this November.

Michigan is on this list, it was published by Grok which is a chatbot.

Instagram flagged the post, but it’s still available for people to see.

The reality is no, President Biden's name will not be on the ballot.

And the reason is President Biden announced he was dropping out of the race before he received any kind of delegates to the democratic national convention.

Each state has its own laws when it comes to printing ballots, and Michigan’s deadline isn’t until after the convention.

“According to Michigan State law the party has until the day after that convention to submit their name for President to the State Secretary of State's office," says Domonique Clemons is the Genesee County Clerk.

Clemons says when you vote this November, you will see the name of the person who was nominated at the convention.

"We have not programmed we have not printed any ballots yet for November. That process here in Genesee County will be happening shortly after the August primary and into September we will have all of our ballots printed and ready to go out to our local clerks by the midpoint of September," he says.

These deadlines are in place because Clemons says there are certain checks and balances that have to happen.

According to election laws, the state has to have absentee ballots in the mail 30 days before the election.
