False claims of China refusing to help India counter the US tariffs shared - DFRAC ORG

The United States has imposed a 25% tariff on most goods imported from India. In the context of the tariff imposed a claim is going viral on the internet. An account on X, named ‘Navcom24’ claimed “China refuses to form any separate bloc with India to help counter US tariffs, Russia not interested either.” The account posted the statement on 1 August 2025.

Another account on X, with the username ‘NomanChattha’ shared the statement “India is the most hated community and nation in the universe.”

Fact Check

We at DFRAC investigated the viral claim and found it to be misleading. When we searched the viral statement on the internet, we did not find any media reports or official government statement suggesting that India proposed to form any separate bloc with China to counter US tariffs and China refused it. No reports were found suggesting that such an offer was given to Russia either.

But, we came across an article by ‘AInvest’ published on 1 August 2025. The article is titled “U.S. Tariffs Push India Closer to Russia and China Amid Trade Tensions”. Furthermore the article says that the policy indirectly spurred renewed interest in the Russia-India-China (RIC) framework, with Moscow and Beijing pushing for trilateral cooperation while India maintains strategic autonomy.
