False claims of election fraud: We must defend democracy - The Morning Call

The 2022 midterms are fast approaching. It may only be March, but already our screens are being bombarded by campaign ads.

Soon lawns will be smattered with political signs, and every local, state and congressional candidate will be out trying to get your vote.

Pennsylvanians are deeply divided. There’s no denying it. Unfortunately, with the 2022 election on the way, and a presidential election following soon thereafter, that chasm of division may widen even further.

The poll also showed us Republican voters are less trustful of election processes and state institutions than the rest of the electorate. The numbers are concerning.

While two-thirds of Pennsylvanians who voted in the last election believe it was conducted in a fair way, the GOP’s efforts to subvert election results in the future are still very much alive. The poll showed, despite the overwhelming, publicly available evidence to the contrary, most Republicans still believe there was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

In the Senate, ignoring multiple court rulings, state-mandated election audits and federal investigations that failed to find evidence of election fraud or other problems, Republicans launched yet another audit, paying more than a quarter of million dollars to an out-of-state firm with no experience in election reviews to conduct the work.
