False claims of Pa. school shooting at Kentucky gun rally prompt investigation - The Lexington Times

DALLAS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Authorities in Pennsylvania are investigating claims made by a University of Louisville graduate student during a gun violence rally held at the Kentucky State Capitol in February, in which he described a deadly 2017 school shooting at his alma mater—a tragedy school officials and police say never occurred.

The claims surfaced during a gun violence rally held at the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort in February, when Calvin Polachek, a 2020 graduate of Dallas High School, recounted surviving a shooting that he alleged killed his best friend, his brother, and nine other students.

These assertions, reported by several Kentucky media outlets, including Fox 56 in Lexington and the Kentucky Lantern, quickly spread online through national platforms like MSN, Yahoo News, and numerous social media channels, sparking anger and confusion among residents of Dallas Township.

“The district is aware of a video clip and accompanying article that appears to depict a former Dallas student speaking about a school shooting at Dallas in 2017. Thankfully, that never happened,” the Dallas School District stated Wednesday. “Our district solicitor is supporting an investigation and communication regarding the circulating clip.”

Dallas Township Police Chief Doug Higgins emphasized the severity of the misinformation in a statement released Wednesday, firmly rejecting the former student’s narrative.
