WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A man was arrested after police determined his claims of threats against his children were unfounded.
The West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) said Paul Navarro, 42, was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail for perjury and making a false 911 call.
On Monday, Navarro called 911, alleging that a man threatened to "rape your [Navarro's] kids" while he was walking his children to school. Officers responded to the scene at 705 11th Street, where Navarro provided a sworn statement captured on a body-worn camera.
Navarro claimed the threats came from an upstairs apartment and he then engaged in a verbal argument with the alleged suspect. However, when police interviewed a neighbor, she reported not hearing any threats but noted ongoing disputes between Navarro and upstairs residents.
The investigation included a review of surveillance footage from the school and Navarro's residence, which did not support his initial statement. Police said Navarro insisted that officers interview his children, who were taken to school after the alleged incident. When police met with the children that morning they appeared in good health, with no signs of "physical or mental issues."
