India on Sunday dismissed China’s move to assign what it called “fictitious names” to locations, amid Beijing’s recent creation of a new county in Xinjiang near Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the Afghanistan border, as well as similar claims over Arunachal Pradesh.
Responding to media queries, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement, “India categorically rejects any mischievous attempts by the Chinese side to assign fictitious names to places which form part of the territory of India.”
The statement comes amid increased scrutiny of China’s administrative moves in disputed regions, including the establishment of new counties near India’s borders.
"Such attempts by China at introducing false claims and manufacturing baseless narratives cannot alter the undeniable reality that these places and territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, were, are, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India," said Jaiswal.
He also warned that such actions could impact efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
"These actions by the Chinese side detract from ongoing efforts to stabilise and normalise India-China bilateral ties. China should refrain from actions which inject negativity into relations and undermine efforts to create better understanding," added Jaiswal.
