What is Family Day?
In Ontario, Family Day is a statutory holiday for provincially regulated employees.
The day is intended to give workers a long weekend in February, a month that had no long weekends, to spend more time with their families.
In addition to better work-life balance, Family Day also offers economic benefits through increased travel and spending on leisure activities within the province.
The holiday was introduced by then Premier Dalton McGuinty’s provincial government in 2008 and is covered by Ontario’s Employment Standards Act (ESA). It’s one of nine stat holidays that employees are entitled to each year.
