WASHINGTON (TNND) — The FBI warned Tuesday that videos promoting false election narratives featuring the agency's name and insignia were circulating online on Election Day.
"The fabricated news clip reports falsely that the FBI purportedly stated that Americans should “vote remotely” due to a high terror threat at polling stations," the FBI said in a release. "This video is not authentic and does not accurately represent the current threat posture or polling location safety."
The other video contains a fabricated FBI press release alleging that the management of five prisons in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona rigged inmate voting and colluded with a political party.
"This video is also not authentic, and its contents are false," the FBI stated.
In September, the Biden administrationannounced a sweeping set of actions against Russia to tackle their efforts to influence the presidential election.
Kremlin-run media and other online platforms were allegedly being used to spread disinformation to U.S. voters.
On Nov. 1, the FBI issued a joint statement addressing another recent video from alleged Russian influence actors falsely depicting individuals claiming to be from Haiti and voting illegally in multiple counties in Georgia.
Russian influence actors were also accused of manufacturing a second video falsely accusing an individual associated with the Democratic presidential ticket of taking a bribe from a U.S. entertainer.
