Federal health care fraud takedown targets 455 defendants, $6.5 billion - KTTN

Four Missouri residents have been charged in separate cases involving alleged health care fraud and related offenses as part of the Department of Justice’s 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, according to an announcement from United States Attorney R. Matthew Price of the Western District of Missouri.

The cases filed in federal court involve allegations ranging from forged nursing credentials to fraudulent Medicaid claims. Federal officials said the enforcement effort is designed to protect public health care programs and preserve taxpayer-funded resources intended for medical care and support services.

Price said fraudulent claims divert money from programs intended to support the health and well-being of Americans while also threatening the long-term viability of essential health care services. He said the coordinated enforcement action demonstrates that individuals involved in health care fraud will be identified, investigated, and held accountable.

Nationwide, the operation resulted in charges against 455 defendants, including 90 physicians and other licensed medical professionals. Authorities allege the schemes involved more than $6.5 billion in false claims, as well as significant patient harm, including deaths.

The enforcement initiative involved cases in 56 federal districts and 45 states and territories. All 50 state Medicaid Fraud Control Units participated, marking the largest level of involvement in the department’s history.
