Federal workers will face renewed pressure to get Covid-19 shots or risk losing their jobs, after a New Orleans appeals court Thursday ruled that a challenge to President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate covering 2.1 million U.S. government civilian employees should be dismissed.
The appellate court said a Trump-appointed Texas trial judge had been wrong to block the presidential order nationwide while the workers’ court challenge played out. In a split decision, the appellate judges decided the trial judge had no jurisdiction to hear the workers’ complaint and ordered him to dismiss the case, which will reinstate the vaccine mandate.
