Firings over Charlie Kirk social media posts sparking legal reckoning - Tallahassee Democrat

Federal courts are now grappling with a key issue: Did public employees engage in protected free speech when they commented on Charlie Kirk’s death online?

Legal challenges to firings or disciplinary action stem from critical comments made about the conservative commentator and activist after he was assassinated at a Utah event Sept. 10. Since then, his death sparked grief among Florida officials and triggered public shaming and firing of employees across the country, over posts allegedly celebrating his death (though at least one went after Kirk's online critics).
