Five Florida ophthalmology practices, including one on the Treasure Coast, agreed to pay nearly $6 million to resolve allegations of fraudulent claims to Medicare and Medicaid for cranial ultrasounds, according to a news release from the U.S. Justice Department.
Florida Eye Institute P.A., Clay Eye Holdings LLC, Retina Macula Specialist of Miami LLC, Miami Eye LLC and Kendall Eye Institute Inc. faced alleged violations of the False Claims Act arising from their billing for trans-cranial doppler ultrasounds through a kickback arrangement with a third-party testing company, according to a Jan. 15 news release from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Public Affairs.
