Good news: Florida's economy was ranked the best in the nation according to this year's "America’s Top States for Business" report from CNBC. The state was No. 8 overall in the U.S.

Bad news: Florida also made CNBC's "10 worst states to live and work in" list for 2023. But that might depend on your viewpoint.

Every year, CNBC assesses state business climates to find the best and worst states to live and work for companies and employees, using 10 different categories. Here's how the Sunshine State ranked.

CNBC: Florida has the best economy in the U.S.

Up from No. 4 last year, CNBC ranked Florida as having the best economy in all 50 states, something Gov. Ron DeSantis is happy to point out.

The state has seen an incredible comeback from the coronavirus pandemic, with a surge in employment — mostly from the leisure and hospitality sector — and record numbers of visitors in the first quarter of 2023. The state is capturing nearly 45% of the market share of overseas travelers, the highest any state has recorded, DeSantis said, who credits his leadership in opening the state back up to business and tourism during COVID-19.

DeSantis said the economic prosperity has resulted in a surplus making up 20% of the state's total budget, "mostly unallocated general revenue" of which $3 billion is meant for a rainy day fund and another $500 million for disaster response.
