Former Alberta premier Rachel Notley has joined a B.C. and Alberta-based law firm specializing in workplace issues, in her first move outside of politics that comes weeks after resigning as a MLA.
Notley, 60, was announced early Monday to be joining Southern Butler Price LLP (SBP), effective this month.
In a social media post, Notley cited the firm’s team of women leaders and its work to improve workplaces.

“SBP shares my passion for fairness, solving tough problems, and supporting positive change,” she stated.
“I can’t wait to bring my experience to this exciting new chapter.”
SBP describes itself as offering “neutral services in employment, labour, and human rights law” and has offices in Vancouver and Calgary, with Notley to join the firm’s Alberta office.
Managing partner Nicole Price cited Notley’s “incomparable leadership” in welcoming her to SBP.
“Her commitment to equity and fairness is a perfect fit for the work we do helping some of the country’s largest employers navigate complex problems.”
SBP says Notley will provide expertise on leadership and governance, conflict resolution and facilitation, equity initiatives, coaching, as well as complex complaints, investigations, reviews, and assessments.
On Dec. 12, Notley announced she was stepping down as MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona, effective. Dec. 30 after a nearly 17-year career as MLA that also saw her serve as Alberta’s 17th premier between 2015 and 2019.
