A former state constituency coordinator in Kedah denies charges of submitting false documents for over RM33,000 in government expenditure claims.
ALOR SETAR: A former state constituency coordinator pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of submitting false documents involving more than RM33,000 in expenditure claims.
Faizal Zailan, 45, was accused of submitting a Government Allocation Expenditure Report for November to December 2023 amounting to RM33,850 to a financial administrative assistant at the Kedah State Legislative Assembly and State Executive Council.
The accused, who has since been removed from his post, is alleged to have known that the document contained false particulars, as the listed recipients of the allocation did not receive the funds.
The offence was allegedly committed at the Bakar Arang State Constituency Coordinator’s office in Sungai Petani on Jan 7, 2024.
The charge was framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which is punishable under Section 24(2) of the same Act.
Upon conviction, the charge provides for a maximum prison term of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the claims or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
MACC prosecuting officer Mohd Zulfadli Azharudin proposed bail of RM20,000 with one surety.
Judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed May 11 for mention of the case.
